Gabrielle McMullin : a Whistleblowing Woman in the medical profession.
Vascular surgeon Dr Gabrielle McMullin launched her book "Pathways to Gender Equality : The Role of Merit and Quotas" on the evening of Friday 17 April 2015.
"What I tell my trainees is that, if you are approached for s-x, probably the safest thing to do in terms of your career is to comply with the request," she said after the launch.
Dr McMullen said many people had thanked her for speaking out and some had come forward with more appalling stories of their experiences.
"Women do not get supported if they make a complaint," she told the ABC.
One victim commented,"It's well and good that the legislation and laws say x, y and z but that wouldn't happen in practice. It would be unlikely to."
Dr McMullin said it was just the start of a conversation that, before now, had remained largely unspoken.
"This has produced an amazing reaction and I have had people say, if you had said it differently, it wouldn't have had this reaction and then we wouldn't be having this conversation," she said.
